beezer is now officially the new park geologist at Mount Rainier National Park, WA. After working for so long at getting that elusive permanent job with the National Park Service, I DID IT!

I started on Monday… already its a challenging job but I love it. Been thrown into the middle of a pretty important project on the park’s NW side and there’s a ton of really exciting projects that will be taking place this summer. Already began hiring for some positions and if funding goes through, we should have a great staff of geologists working some important pressing park issues this summer. Yay! On Friday, when I was going home, I was rewarded with a spectacular view of the sunset on the mountain, complete with alpenglow.

Yosemite was a great place to work and I really, really enjoyed the people I worked with. I made some amazing memories and friendships with some of the rangers there that I hope to continue for a long, long time. But it was time for me to get “home” and be back in the Pacific Northwest. I truly love it here.

A lot of stuff has happened in my life in the last year — some good, some bad. But everything is working out and I’m glad where I’m at right now. I’m happy, despite some major things that have gone on recently, personally. I feel like things are finally making some sense and that this will be a great opportunity. Life is good!

Holy weather batman. Yosemite just got hammered with snow… Wawona had about 2 feet of fresh, heavy, wet snow starting from about 10 pm 1/21/10 – noonish 1/22/10. During the night, trees were falling like mad. At 1 am, a tree hit my house… didn’t do too much damage from what we could tell. Then 45 minutes later, several trees fell en masse and completely destroyed our deck… Check out facebook for photos. I’ll try to add some on here.

Anyway… I’m safe, my car is safe… I’m staying with friends here and have heat and generator-driven electricity. Anticipated date for power to come back is the 25th, but I doubt that… the number of trees and powerlines down… crazy. We’ll see. I’m sure I’ll be moving to a different house here as soon as buildings and grounds gets one opened.

Respect the trees!

Photo of the patrol car I was driving today. We do chain control to ensure that people are actually following the chain restrictions in order to not make complete chaos on the road when there’s snow or other inclement weather. It doesn’t really stop the chaos though… CA has the highest per capita instance of bad drivers in my opinion.

P.S. I love the fact I drive a car with emergency lights. :)

Things have changed… again!

Hello there everyone, or at least those people who visit beezer.com on an occasional basis. As you can tell, things have definitely changed.

beezer.com was getting too crazy, way too big and bloated and I had no idea what the heck was going on. So, I made a backup of everything (key step, btw) which involved downloading 7,980 files off of the old site. Really? I had 7,980 files on this thing? Crazy.

Then I installed this wordpress thingy. That’s right, beezer.com is now a blog. Whoo!

But, it shall still have some of the old stuff, when I get time to add the stuff back. It’ll be a while before everything is where I want it. But at least, it’ll be different. And hey, different is good.

Either way… I hopefully will update this more frequently. But, knowing me, that won’t happen :) And I’ll try to get some of the old posts back up here… once I find a way to get them from the old format to this new fancy wordpress format. Give me time, it’ll be good again. In the meantime, take a look around at the new stuff. I know there isn’t much now, but it’ll be changing soon.
